Meghan Trainor might be claiming it’s All About That Bass but we all know that during January it is actually all about diet, detox and denial.
Following all the gluttony that is a natural accompaniment to the festive season, we all start to feel the guilt, not to mention the tight waistbands, by New Year.
It is when we are becoming a little too reliant on our lycra that it is time to take action.
But how can you make a task like exercising more of a treat than torture?
The answer is by signing up for Eden Hall Spa Membership.
The popular day spa has now opened the doors to its fabulous facility for exclusive membership, allowing what might have just been an annual escape into a regular visit.
Fabulous facilities are waiting to take your mind and body on a transformation tour.
Behind the strong, foreboding turrets of this luxury listed building lies an oasis of calm and relaxation where visitors come to unwind, be pampered, become revived and refreshed.
However many people, simply visiting on a day spa invitation, might not take advantage of the exercise facilities and on-site gym.
You may have conveniently by-passed this area on previous trips if your sole purpose was to pamper but it’s worth the effort of stopping by and stepping up for some fun and fitness.
As a member you have full access to the fitness studio which holds a daily programme of exercise and relaxation classes from hula-hooping to yoga and pilates.
The gym is split over two floors with cardiovascular equipment including treadmills, bikes and cross trainers complemented by resistance machines and free weights.
But that’s not all. There are extensive grounds surrounding Eden Hall which is perfectly positioned in countryside at Elston Village; a stone’s throw off the A46 near Newark.
Here you can take advantage of its situation and go cycling in the outdoors, try your aim at archery or simply take a stroll.
During my visit, I was met by Lorraine, one of the leisure team who gave me an induction in the gym.
This comprised of a 40-minute workout using a mixture of machines, free weights and exercises that certainly got my heart jumping out of my chest.
Lorraine encouraged and advised throughout the session and motivated me to push much harder than I would have done if left to my own devices.
This session was followed by a hula-hooping session which revealed that actually exercise can be fun as the class was transported back to the playgrounds for juvenile frolics but with a purpose- to trim those waists.
After working up a sweat it was time to wind down and this is easy at Eden Hall.
This is what they do best.
At first I was introduced to my first Mini Musclease Wrap. This involved a loofah rub-down followed by full body massage with oils before being wrapped in a foil blanket.
I know I had exercised previously but I hadn’t run a marathon. But now I felt like I had crossed the finishing line and been enveloped in the typical protective foil cloak of competitiors.
An Eden Taster Facial came later as I felt the Christmas excesses melt away.
After a delicious, healthy yet tasty three-course lunch in the formal dining room, I relaxed in the conservatory before heading for the pool, outdoor hot tubs and steam experiences.
I felt exerted yet relaxed, healthier and revived and that was after just one day. Imagine what a difference it would make to my Chi if I had access all year round?
This is the concept behind the membership scheme. As a member you can have access to all this and more including discounts on food and treatments as well as retail items, extended opening hours and member-only events and classes from £89 a month.
