RSPCA officers are appealing for the owner of a stray African grey parrot to come forward after the bird was found by a member of the public in Mansfield on Monday.
The bird was spotted by an eagle-eyed person on the pavement outside a garage on Debdale Lane.

They managed to pick it up and took it to the garage, where it stayed until RSPCA inspector Keith Ellis collected it.

He took him to the RSPCA Chesterfield Animal Centre, where it will stay until his owner can be found.

The bird has a ring on his leg and is in good condition.

Said Insp Ellis: "I'm sure he must have an owner who is missing their parrot, as it is extremely friendly and sits on your hand and has obviously been well cared for."

It is thought the parrot belongs to someone in the Mansfield area as it is unlikely to have flown much further than this.

Anyone who knows where the parrot may have come from should contact the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999 and ask to leave a message for Keith Ellis.

Potential owners will be asked to verify the bird's ring number.
