THIS eye-catching mushroom village is the latest addition at Sherwood Pines Forest Park and celebrates the fungi which grow throughout the beauty spot.
The mushroom village has been built at the 3,000-acre park at a cost of £50,000 and is made up of 6ft-tall metal fungi.

It is hoped the ambitious project will put the centre at the forefront of adventure play facilities in the East Midlands.

Recreation manager Chris Bray said: "We're trying to get away from old fashioned penned play areas and give kids greater freedom to explore.

"There are plenty of good educational reasons for doing this, like learning about risk, but as far as youngsters are concerned it's just loads more fun."

The play area has been built by a leading German company and mushrooms, which are plentiful in the forest, were inspirational when drawing up their plans.

Children can go inside the mushrooms, which are connected with a wooden boardwalk, take a trip down a slide and get busy moving sand around using buckets on a chain.
