MAJOR plans to build 35 homes, 14 offices and a meeting room at the site of a former business in Spion Kop have been given the go-ahead.
John Fretwell applied to construct the new development at the former Wood Bros Timber Yard site on the A60 Mansfield Road.

The plans include a wide range of dwellings, including two, three and four-bedroomed houses, bungalows and an apartment, which would all have a garage and a meeting room for business and community use.

Members of Mansfield District Council's Planning Committee backed the scheme – despite receiving objections from Nottinghamshire County Council because using the land for residential properties does not fit in with the Mansfield Local Plan.

Coun Barry Answer told the meeting: "The planned properties appear to be of good quality.

"That particular area in itself has been a bit of barren land for a long time and I think it says it all when there were no comments from members of the public."

A number of previous applications for the site have been submitted and the latest one last year for 59 homes was turned down.
