A MANSFIELD homeowner is kicking up a stink after spending nearly a week with raw sewage spilling out onto his street.
Sixty-year-old Lindsey Drive resident David Orpwood is lashing out at utility suppliers Severn Trent after having to put up with the sewage spilling from overflowing drains for over a week — despite repeatedly asking the company to fix the problem.

"It has been happening on and off now for quite a while but this last incident started on 21st February," said David, "Severn Trent came out last week and cleared the blockage but they didn't do anything to clear up the road so we still had raw sewage all over it."

And the nightmare was far from over for residents when drains flooded yet again last week after the company claimed to have fixed the problem.

"One of my neighbours called them last Wednesday and they told her someone would be out the same day but by that evening nothing had been done about it.

"I rang them on Thursday and they told me they would send someone out that day. I told my neighbour and she decided to call them herself and ask if they were coming –– and got told there was no way anyone would be able to come out.

"There's grease covering all the way down one side of the road. There are people along here whose grandkids come to visit them, and your walking it all around your house, it's hell.

"They keep saying they will send people out to fix it but I just don't believe them any more — something needs to be done."

A statement issued by Severn Trent said the company had visited Lindsey Drive on 26th February to clean up and disinfect the road surface following a sewer flooding at the start of the week.

"This sewer flooding was the result of a blockage on the sewer network, which was caused by a build up of fats, oils and grease which had been incorrectly disposed down the drain," the statement said.

"The sewer has now been jet washed to remove this blockage. Severn Trent engineers will be carrying out further CCTV investigations this week to ensure there are no further blockages or defects on the network."

All i can say if people stopped putting things down the drain that they shouldnt ie fats greases sanitary products then the drains would not get blocked simple as that. Severn Trent should charge them if you ask me

Some people are never happy good of Severn Trent to let free fertiliser out for folk to use. I'd give my poo away for good garden use
