COUNCIL chiefs have given the go-ahead for a perimeter security fence and gates to be put up at Mansfield's King Edward Primary and Nursery School.
Nottinghamshire County Council's Planning Committee gave the thumbs up to the proposals by the authority's own resources department at a meeting last week.

The move to erect the fence and gates comes after reports of people congregating on the site of the St Andrew Street school at night and weekends, while vandalism has also taken place there.

Council chiefs say the wrought iron gates will stand more than two metres high and will be installed at the vehicle entrance, while the fence will be 1.5 metres in height.

Work is expected to start later this year.
