MEMBERS of Mansfield District Council have chosen Coun Alan Fell as their new chairman for the coming year.
Coun Fell, who represents Oak Tree ward, has been vice-chairman for the last year and will replace Coun Barry Answer.

He was voted into the role at the council's annual meeting last Tuesday and members welcomed him to the role.

Said Coun Kate Allsop: "I would like to say that Coun Alan Fell will make an excellent chairman. I am quite sure that both Alan and his wife Linda will take to the role like ducks to water. I wish them every success for the coming year."

Coun Answer was presented with a book of photos from his year as chairman, in which he held a golf day and chairman's ball to raise fund for Brunts School's performing arts centre and other charities.

And Mansfield mayor Tony Egginton thanked Coun Answer for his 'outstanding performance' as chairman.

He told the meeting: "His attendance record has been exemplary. I would like to thank him for the work he has put in in representing this district with the utmost pride."

Coun Mick Barton, who represents Forest Town West ward, was chosen as the new vice-chairman.

Mr Egginton did not make any changes to his cabinet for the coming year, keeping the same councillors in the roles.
