A BOY racer from Mansfield Woodhouse is the first in the country to be convicted for breaching an injunction which prevents car cruisers meeting in groups.
Eighteen-year-old Adam Barnfather, of Park Hall Road, was stopped after driving his red Vauxhall Corsa in a 16-car convoy around Midworth Street on 17th October at around 8.15pm.
He was eventually stopped by police in a lay-by in Quaker Way after being spotted doing wheel spins down Albert Street, which caused smoke to come from his tyres.
Barnfather admitted breaching the injunction handed to him on 21st July –– which banned him boy racing anywhere across Nottinghamshire.
Yesterday at Nottinghamshire County Court, Barnfather was sentenced to a 28-day custodial sentence –– suspended for the rest of the injunction which lasts until June 2009 and also ordered to pay £250 in costs.
Following the case, Coun Glynn Gilfoyle, Nottinghamshire County Council cabinet member for community safety and parterships, told Chad: "This sends out a clear signal to boy racers and is a clear contempt of court which judges do not like," he said.
"We hope that like-minded people will now stop causing this havoc and misery, not only to the people of Mansfield but for Nottinghamshire as well."
