AN APPEAL to the Government on the legitimacy of the Mansfield BID scheme has been rejected after officials ruled its ballot of town businesses had been conducted properly.
A group of firms united as Mansfield Independent Business Alliance against the plan after the pooled funding scheme was narrowly approved by a vote earlier this year.
An appeal based on which firms were allowed to vote was submitted to the Department for Communities and Local Government, but a decision delivered today said there was 'no material irregularity' in the process.
The ruling means hundreds of businesses will begin paying a 'bid levy' of fees into a pooled funding pot for town centre promotion and improvements.
Craig Eyre, of Mansfield IBA, said the ruling was 'disappointing' but added there were no plans for a court challenge of the decision. He added he still believed the process had not been conducted fairly.
John Sankey, BID steering group chairman, said he was 'really happy' with the decision.
"This means we can now get on with the job," he said.
