WARSOP MP John Mann has welcomed a Government decision to save rural pharmacies — which was backed by more than 5,000 of his constituents.
Ministers were considering preventing GPs in rural practices from dispensing medicines as they currently do and only letting them continue if their patients lived more than a mile from a chemist shop.
Mr Mann wrote to local people to ask for their views and thousands wrote back with concerns their health could be put at risk if they had to travel to gain medicines.
"This is a victory for common sense," he said. "Closing local pharmacies won't help anyone — I'm delighted that the minister has listened to my constituents and is allowing the status quo to remain."
