LABOUR had a clean sweep in the Mansfield by-elections yesterday, beating off competition from Independent candidates to gain an extra seat on the county council and two more on the district council.
By-elections were held yesterday (25th) following the deaths of Mansfield Independent Forum councillors Tom Appleby and Norman Cook in October last year and Labour managed to gain all of them.

Chris Winterton has become a Nottinghamshire county councillor for Mansfield South after losing his long-standing Mansfield East seat in the elections last year, while Brian Lohan gained the Portland ward on Mansfield District council and Julia Yemm the Sherwood seat.

Less than 25% turnout - God help us! 'Thanks' to the 75% who 'couldn't be bothered'.

It’s not always about not being bothered. Personally I hope the turn out drops and drops until they can’t legitimately claim to represent us.

So of that 25%, what % voted labour in? 12.5%?less? more?

How can they claim to represent the majority of people, when the majority of people didn’t vote for them?

When can we actually see on the ballot paper 'None of the above!'

Congrats to all involved but especially MASSIVE thanks to that chipper little chancellor and Deputy Mayor for announcing the closure of Warsop pool

'Today would be a good day (announcing closure) to lose a couple of seats...'

Big thanks also to Portfolio Holder for Housing and Portfolio Holder for Demolition for their efforts

Hope we can rely on your support and more 'faux pas' from the Cheesy and Whine Party in future

Next priority to deal with the EXECUTIVE Mayor's re-election promises made nearly 3 years since, and I quote (for Jason Bio...):

Weekly bin collections (in summer)
FREE (in upper case) bulky items collection (to deter fly tipping)
LPG vehicles increased (was 2 Astra vans only with hand-pump fill)
FREE (in upper case) off peak leisure passes (removed by Ineptdents when imposing stealth taxes July 2004)
