A GAMBLING Mansfield Woodhouse man was caught with £1,780-worth of fake £20 notes at an amusement arcade, a court was told.
Adrian Aston (40) had already changed about £220-worth of counterfeits and told staff at Shipley's arcade in Mansfield he wanted £1 coins to play on the machines.

Aston, of Lawrence Avenue, admitted possessing and passing counterfeit currency at the arcade on 10th April.

Prosecutor Jim Metcalf told Nottingham Crown Court on Friday that at one point staff at the arcade feared they might lose their livelihoods because of what had happened.

Aston's barrister, Anna Soubury, said: "At the route of this has been his long-standing problem with gambling."

But he had shown remorse and since being brought to court had kept clear of any form of gambling with the aid of online help.

Aston told police he had been in touch with someone in London about borrowing money.

Judge Jonathan Teare told him: "You must have realised it was counterfeit money you were buying."

The sentence was eight months prison, suspended for a year, with supervision and 12 months exclusion from all premises licensed for gambling.
