A MANSFIELD district councillor accused of laughing at the residents affected by the fault in the district heating system at Sandy Lane says it was a nervous reaction.
Coun Heather Henshaw, portfolio holder for housing for Mansfield District Council, said she was reacting to an 'out of the blue' question about a rent strike, when being questioned on an edition of BBC's East Midlands Today.

She was on the programme to talk about the faulty system which left some residents without central heating for three weeks.

"It was a nervous reaction to something that had never been mentioned previously, and the BBC has had an official complaint from the council," she said.

"It has always been my intention to do all I can to improve the standard of housing in Mansfield, and I have been working, along with officers, for the last seven years to reach that aim. I will continue to work hard for the residents of Sandy Lane and the district."

The Bullfarm Broadcasting Company (BBC) asked the Councillor a question about the Residents taking part in a 'Rent Strike'.
Our Interviewer took the laugh to be aimed at the suggestion of a 'Strike' as a non-starter.
Well done for speaking yer mind.

A nervous reaction? Get out of here. If it was a nervous laugh her body language would've been completely different.

She should be ashamed of herself!

She had the same nervous laugh with Bullock Constructions shoddy workmanship in 2006/2007. I must invite British Gas around to check our supply because we haven't had nothing to laugh about since

Funny how different folks perceive things differently...

"never been mentioned before" - it all has to be rehearsed for the on-camera interview, eh, Heather???

'Portfolio Holder's Question Time' springs to mind

"..oh, yeah....we'll see about THAT, then.." is how I perceived it - a put-down (and I'd only tuned in to the central transmitter to see Rebecca....)

Very disappointing from a career-councillor

Just had a word with British Gas and they have confirmed that they are using a new gas, because they are having a laugh with the profits that they have just announced.

@Dark_Storm whats that about bullock? I had some work carried out by them and i ended up making a complaint about them! They left the electric cooker wire hanging off the wall and tried to hide it by pushing the cooker up to it! Could have blown me up!! So was there other complaints in 06 and 07..Why are the council still continuing to use these cowboys!!!

Say no more. It's everywhere where these cowboys have been but don't expect MDC to admit to it. Remember Egg saying 90% loved the work and then a few weeks later about 40 odd percent refused to let these cowboys in.

The work is shoddy and more money has been wasted than a little and there has been injuries galore and as for this lady. Ha! She could not care less.

All I can say is the bye election results today reflect in no small part the attitude of the Independents and their mis-managment of the town in general. Yes three Labour Gains.

Mr Mansfield,

The big test will come at the General Election. If Alan Meale and his considerable baggage get elected then it really will be the end of Independents.

Aside from that, it will also be a sad day for Mansfield. If he does get in he might as well go the whole hog and really take the p*** by hosting a garden party to celebrate.
