WEST Notts College bosses are on the verge of unveiling a new £7.6m construction and logistics skills academy in Kirkby.
The facility will open after Easter and provide training in bricklaying, joinery, wood-machining, plumbing and fork-lifting to the college's 650 construction students.
The building, which was refurbished by local firm Baggaley and Jenkins, includes private study areas, classrooms and a chill out area which overlooks the main study zones.
Chris Whitaker, associate director of learning for construction & building services, says he is delighted with progress so far at the new premises on Julius Way.
'Lucky'
"We are looking forward to seeing all of our students using our new study facility and feel very lucky that we have been able to be creative with the various specialist learning zones," he said.
"These areas will enable our students to work with full size products in true to life construction and logistics situations.
"In the near future we are looking at being able to build mock up houses which will challenge our students' development and enhance their learning process and skills."
