MANSFIELD folk have helped raise more than £3,400 to help soldiers injured fighting in wars.
The fundraising drive for the Help for Heroes charity was organised by Mansfield district councillor Victor Bobo and involved a number of events at local pubs.
And one generous veteran donated a medal he won fighting in Kosovo, which was auctioned at Forest Town's Prince Charles pub –– because of his concerns about the welfare of troops coming home.
Coun Bobo told Chad: "The warm reception and generosity was amazing. It is a very worthy cause. It is only now that central government has woken up to the fact that these people are coming home injured.
"Help for Heroes provides psychological, emotional and financial support."
The pubs who held fundraising events were Mansfield's Boothy's Club and King's Arms — as well as the Prince Charles — while a collection was held in a number of town centre pubs. Mansfield-based miners' union the UDM also got involved.
