TWO men were arrested in Meden Vale on Thursday in relation to suspected illegal money lending –– known as loan sharking –– and money laundering activities.
They were taken to Mansfield Police Station for questioning after the East Midlands Trading Standards Illegal Money Lending Unit (IMLU) and officers from Nottinghamshire Police executed two search warrants.

Both were bailed to return to the police station pending further enquiries by the IMLU.

Now IMLU officers say they are keen to hear from anyone who is a victim of a loan shark in the area or has any other information of other loan sharks operating in Nottinghamshire.

Said spokesman Steve Ward: "Using loan sharks can ruin people's lives and that is why East Midlands Illegal Money Lending Unit is so important.

"We not only tackle the illegal money lenders we can support the victims by referring them to legal forms of credit.

"In the case of loan sharks, there will often be individuals on estates who are known as someone who could lend money if you need it, but there are also doorstep legal lenders, who also offer very high interest rates, and we want people to know they have other options."
