SUMMER sun finally came to Mansfield on Sunday - just in time for Summer Music Sundae, a brand new event for the town.
Five top acts at a free six-hour music festival in Mansfield town centre drew an estimated 2,000 people to Mansfield Market Place, out to celebrate the fine weather and a great family day out.

Summer Music Sundae featured top tribute acts and music from a wife variety of genres - enough to attract visitors of all ages to the town centre.

Part of the annual Summer in the Streets extravaganza, it was put together by Mansfield District Council in conjunction with Mansfield Town Centre Partnership.

Now the event could become a regular feature of the summer entertainments programme.

Town centre events and promotion co-ordinator Lisa Vincent told Chad: "We are extremely pleased with the event as a whole, it was a lovely day and the crowds seemed to really enjoy it and stay for the full day.

"We will be bringing this event back next year and make it a permanent fixture in our Summer in the Streets festival."

Keeping the music flowing throughout the day was the Mansfield 103.2 Roadshow.

The fun started with Totally Tropical, a reggae band bringing an hour of sunshine songs. They were followed by swing music, courtesy of Paul Pashley.

His classic music then led into three tribute acts that had mansfield people dancing in the streets.

The first of the tribute acts was Girls R Aloud, covering all the pop hits from Number One stars Girls Aloud.

Next up was top Michael Jackson lookalike Navi, reputed to be the world's best Michael Jackson impersonator.

The afternoon's entertainment reached a climax with Re Take That, top tribute to famous boy band Take That.

The musical theme to Summer in the Streets continues with Party In the Park on 2nd August, the flagship event of the Summer In The Streets extravaganza.

This year's star name is X Factor hit and Eurovision singer Andy Abraham, who will round-off a great day of fun at Titchfield Park.

Earlier girl band Stonefoxx, featuring a local singer, and a High School Musical tribute are among the line-up — together with a variety of local singers.

Summer in the Streets, now in its sixth year, continues every summer weekend with street entertainment in the Market Place. This Saturday, look out for acrobats the Black Eagles in the town centre.
