MANSFIELD band The Dooberies got a surprising break at a local rock club with their eclectic folk influenced blues music.
The band began when Georgie (acoustic guitar/lead vocals) and boyfriend Jed (acoustic guitar/backing vocals) were playing as an acoustic folk trio with harmonica player Rhys at local clubs and were given a break at Mansfield's Town Mill –– traditionally a venue for a rockier sound.
Said Georgie: "The manager told us he was happy to give us a gig –– but he said you've got to get yourselves a drummer and bass player, so we decided to try and put a band together."
They were joined by bass player Simon and Paul on drums and, with the ethos of 'havin' a good time', the band came up with Omens –– an album packed with powerful rhythms, an eclectic mix of material and distinctive blend of guitar styles with lead harmonica.
Georgie said that since the release of Omens, the band's line-up has reshuffled and song writing duties have been shared out –– helping to bring out the various musical tastes of the band, which range from Fleetwood Mac to metal gods Black Sabbath.
"It's hard to pin down our sound –– there's elements of rock and blues but there's also folk and jazz in there," she said. "We've got a couple of reggae tunes as well. Probably the most distinctive part of our sound is our lead harmonica player.
"We take influence from lots of different kinds of music but things are really starting to come together, and it's been really interesting to see what we come up with now we've shared the writing duties."
