IT was third time lucky for punk pop band Crimson Circle as they scooped the Paul Newbury Battle of the Bands title at Warsop Carnival.
The Warsop band, made up of singer and songwriter Martin Brown (18), Dean Hill (18) on drums, Steven Hill (17) on bass and new lead guitarist Tom Sweeting (18) have entered the competition for the last three years, but this time they came away with the prize –– a trophy and two free days to record a CD at Ollerton's Bluewater Studio.
Said Martin: "We've kept trying and it's finally paid off. The competition was great and there were all sorts of different styles, from metal to indie.
"We're still doing the same thing but we're that bit older and it helps that we've settled on a line-up. Everyone is working together to write the songs now which definitely helps."
Now, Martin says they will use their time at the studio to record four or five new songs for an EP.
"The songs are written and ready to go, they just need recording. We will also be looking at recording one of our old songs to show how far we have come," he said.
