AN army of wooden green men stand ready to greet visitors arriving for the two huge outdoor concerts at Sherwood Pines Forest Park later this month.
The nine foot sculptures – made from upturned tree trunks – are the latest addition to the 3,000-acre beauty spot, near Clipstone, and were paid for after the success of last year's concerts by James Morrison and Travis.

The stunning features will gaze out over a trail linking two new fantasy activity areas, created by the Forestry Commission to put the adventure back into play time for children.

Park ranger Becky Mayo said: "The cash we generate is playing a big part in helping us care for our forests.

"And its not just recreational facilities that have been improved. We have also been able to accelerate the restoration of heathland in Sherwood, which is good news for creatures like the rare nocturnal nightjar bird."

Hopes are now high for another cash windfall to support eco-projects from this year's gigs, which take place in a spectacular forest clearing with a capacity of 5,000 people.

Crowded House are set to play the first open air concert on 20th June and The Zutons play the following day, tickets cost £26 - £30 and are available on 01842 814612 or at www.forestry.gov.uk/music
