Sutton comic back for comedy festival

SUTTON stand-up comedian Steve N Allen is to host a show at the Nottingham Comedy Festival this month.

Steve has appeared at various venues including the Edinburgh Festival during a tour of the country with his live show SomeNews.co.uk.

But the comic has said it is good to be back in his home county. “The comedy scene in Nottingham keeps getting bigger and it is nice to be back doing the show in the place where I got my sense of humour,” said Steve.

The former Sutton Centre pupil worked as a commercial radio DJ before becoming a stand up comedian and his act combines the two, with live comedy based on news and quirky stories.

He added: “It was working on projects like Ashfield AM when I was still at school that started me along this road. And now it is useful to have all of those skills to put together.”

Steve added: “The show is about how we are awash with news and information and how you have to learn to be selective. Although the part of the show where we look at some utterly random stories from around the world is my favourite.”

Steve’s show was featured in The Independent’s Top 100 Jokes of the Fringe after its tour of the Scottish festival.

He said: “It is nice when one of your jokes gets recognition like that but it makes you think it means they did not like every other joke in the show.”

You can see Steve N Allen’s SomeNews.co.uk Live Show at the Bell Inn, Nottingham, on 26th September at 8pm. Entry is free. For more information phone the Bell Inn on 0115 947 5241.
