FEE-FI-FO-FUM... Mansfield is in store for a host of Palace Theatre panto fun!
For stars from Jack and the Beanstalk - this year’s Mansfield Palace Theatre panto - are ready to step up to the challenge of filling a VERY large pair of shoes.
Former Dr Who Colin Baker and children’s TV stars Chris Pizzey (Simple Simon), and Emma Nowell, playing Jack, are set to take to the stage for the fairytale about a young boy, magic beans and a huge and very evil giant.
Colin said he was looking forward to taking up the role of Fleshcreep - the giant’s henchman and all round bad guy.
“I absolutely love playing the bad guy - and they don’t get much worse than Fleshcreep.
“I feel as though if there’s one child in the audience crying, I’m doing ok. If they are all crying - perhaps I’ve gone too far!
Colin’s character is a world away from the role which shot him to fame in the mid-80s, that of the 6th incarnation of the Doctor in BBC sci-fi favourite Dr Who.
“I still attend events like the fan conventions for those people who really love the show - there are some very dedicated fans of the Doctor.”
He was keen to visit Mansfield’s dedicated Dr Who toy store in West Gate.
The cast got off to a great start last week when they were introduced to a crowd of thousands who has gathered in Mansfield town centre for the Christmas lights switch on.
“What a great way to launch a pantomime,” said Colin.
Preparations for the panto, which opens on 3rd December, started this week and Colin said as an experienced panto star, he would be taking it all in his stride.
“We are all experienced enough and professional enough for things to go very smoothly.
“I think we are going to have a lot of fun.
“I’ve had a look at the schedule and there aren’t any days with three shows - it’s those which can be gruelling!”
l Tickets for the pantomime, which runs at various times until 8th January, are priced £12, £11 for children with concessions available from the box office on Mansfield 633133 or visit www.mansfield.gov.uk/palacetheatre/jack.htm
Tickets for the 3rd December preview show are £9.50.
