Santa and two of his trusty reindeer will be taking time out of their busy schedule to meet families as part of The Big Switch On event in Mansfield on Sunday 18th November.
Santa has chosen Dancer and Prancer to pull his sleigh in a parade through Mansfield town centre before they head back to Lapland to get ready for a busy Christmas Eve delivering presents to children across the world.
Families are encouraged to line the whole route of Mansfield’s reindeer parade, which has been organised by the Four Seasons Shopping Centre.
At 2.30pm Santa’s sleigh will leave the Buttercross (next to the library) to travel to the Four Seasons’ entrance on West Gate. Anyone wishing to see the parade will need to make sure they are there before 2.30pm.
Once the reindeer have pulled Santa to the entrance of the Four Seasons, Santa will get out of his sleigh and make his way to the Grotto in the Four Seasons where he will be seeing children from 3.45pm.
During this time you’ll be able to get up close to the reindeer and there will also be a personal appearance by Driver Dan from Driver Dan’s Story Train.
The Mayor of Mansfield, Tony Egginton, said: “We are really pleased that Dancer and Prancer and two of Santa’s elves are taking time out from their busy schedules in the run up to Christmas to come to Mansfield. This is the first time we’ve had any of Santa’s reindeer at the Christmas lights switch-on and along with everything else planned for 18th November, it promises to provide the perfect start to a magical Christmas, especially for families.”
Rebekah O’Neill, Centre Manager at the Four Seasons Shopping Centre, said: “Santa’s arrival is a very exciting time for us at Four Seasons, with over 6,000 local children coming to see him in his grotto each year – so we are delighted to invite our customers to come and welcome him and his reindeers as they arrive in style this year.”
This is just one of the many fun and festive activities taking place in the town centre before the main stage show which includes live music, fireworks and snow in the Market Place from 3.30pm – 5.15pm.
The event is organised by the Mansfield Christmas Lights Committee, which includes Mansfield District Council, Mansfield BID, Four Seasons Shopping Centre, Mansfield 103.2 and the Chad, and supporting partners 6 five 2s Taxis, The Hostess restaurant, Queen Elizabeth Trust, Bowring Transport and Dijitul.
