A SCRIPT writer from Mansfield is celebrating after winning a prestigious film award for his screenplay in the film ‘What Richard Did’.

We reported in Chad how Former All Saints School pupil Malcolm Campbell was up for Best Screenplay at the London Evening Standard British Film Awards for 2012.

And the 39-year-old was among the winners at Monday night’s glitzy award ceremony which saw the James Bond epic ‘Skyfall’ scoop Best Film.

Malcolm, formerly of Perlethorpe Avenue, off Chesterfield Road South, was given the job by director Lenny Abrahamson after success writing for Skins, The Bill and Shameless.

The dad-of-one, who now lives in Ireland, landed the gong for ‘screenwriting of a very high order’.

He said: “The awards ceremony was amazing, really cool.

“I think we were the only ones there who were surprised to win.

“I even mentioned the Chad in my acceptance speech. It’s great to get recognition through such a prestigious award.”

Explaining the award choice, Anthony Quinn of the Evening Standard, said: “Film-maker Lenny Abrahamson clearly knew what he was doing when he hired Malcolm Campbell to write the script.”

The film, which was screened at the Broadway in Nottingham, it expected to do well at the Irish Film Awards which take place this weekend.

Malcolm is again nominated for Best Screenplay.
