Thoresby band in 9/11 concert
THORESBY Colliery Band has been invited to play at the official ceremony of remembrance in London to mark the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 atrocities.
The event will be filmed and televised by the BBC on Sunday and takes place at the Memorial Garden in Grosvenor Square.
It will feature music throughout the day, and will be attended by families and friends of victims whose lives were lost.
Members of the Royal family and other high-profile dignitaries will also be present to show their respect.
Thoresby Colliery Band played at the official opening of the Memorial Garden in 2003 after the band was spotted during a summer concert in London in 2002.
Members were also invited to perform again in 2007 at Regent’s Park at an official memorial event remembering the victims of the July 7th bombings in London.
George Kennedy, chairman of the band, said: “The band is privileged to be invited for the third time to provide music for the country’s national remembrance event. It is a real honour for us.”
The band will be providing a programme of music throughout the day, including during the procession and the ceremony and a programme of exit music to conclude.
The band recently played locally at the Thoresby Social Club, Edwinstowe, on Sunday and will also soon be appearing in the national championships.
