Dukeries College students take to stage with Stratford orchestra at Thoresby Riding Hall
The Dukeries College will be taking part in a one-off performance with the internationally renowned Orchestra of the Swan, from The Civic Hall in Stratford-Upon-Avon.
The orchestra’s conductor, David Curtis, and composer James Redwood, together with The Dukeries Head of Music, Alex Bysouth, and 50 selected students will combine their expertise and experience to produce three pieces of music.
These unique compositions will then be performed at a special one night only concert, also including other pieces of music by the orchestra and up to 130 staff and students from The Dukeries Family of Schools.
The Orchestra of the Swan will be performing at Thoresby Riding Hall on 13th September and here students will be introduced to the orchestral members and given a special preview during their rehearsal and pre-performance presentation.
Following on from this, students will visit the Thoresby Estate to look at and participate in activities. There will be a number of workshops led by James Redwood, involving David Curtis, a small number of musicians from the orchestra and The Dukeries College students.
It is hoped that this will provide their inspiration for the compositions and the final performance on 2nd March in The Dukeries College concert hall.
Danny Smith, principal at The Dukeries College, said: “As a college we have been involved in many one off activities and performances in which our students have excelled in their creative talents. However, this is an opportunity that no other student in the country will have the chance to participate in.
“This is the kind of unique activity that we are becoming renowned for and I am very proud that our students will have the chance to showcase their talents in such a memorable way.”
