You may remember Mansfield based band The Beetroot Kings, fronted by lead singer songwriter Gary J. Armstrong?
Well, an awful lot has happened in 2011 for Gary since his decision to disband the Beetroot Kings. He has launched his solo career and is now working with Mansfield label Platinum Records Ltd.
Gary’s debut solo album ‘Fishing With Dynamite’ was released via Platinum in June on all worldwide retail and download sites with high sales exceeding expectations. The figures and countless reviews on itunes speak for themselves and the album is being well received, both worldwide and in the UK.
Since May this year Gary has toured the UK playing numerous festivals and over 40 stand alone dates.
Most noteable was the intertwining of his own tour with now good friend and supporter, acclaimed UK artist and former Million dead front man Frank Turner.
Following his own 2011 tour to promote his album release ‘England Keep My Bones’, Frank found his deserved place as a UK and Worldwide Top 10 artist. It was on this very tour that Gary, who was support to Frank at the Roadmender, Northampton, established a devoted following.
Talking of the Roadmender support slot with Frank Turner, Gary said: “Frank is a truly inspirational artist and person, his on and off stage persona is equal so it was an honour that I was asked to support him at what was his warm-up show for a main stage appearance at Reading the following day’.
“Frank’s fans love him and have a deep loyalty to him, that is why I feel so privileged that they have let me in. They appreciate my music and what I am saying with it.”
Gary plans to release a Christmas single in December and his current official UK tour with his live band comes to an end in his home town of Mansfield this Saturday, where he will be playing his debut album and also the first ever live performance of the Christmas release ‘Dance Down The Local’ at The Fairways in Mansfield Woodhouse.
Gary will be supported by singer/songwriter Ben Haynes.
Gary has recently teamed up with friend Shaun Milburn, to create music videos for ‘Last Lost Generation’, ‘Hazel Green Eyes’ and ‘Out of this Town’, taken from the album, all of which are receiving significant attention on YouTube.
Next year Gary plans to hit the road from April, promoting his new album ‘13’, including dates in Europe.
He added: “We are working on a 50 date UK tour incorporating festival appearances . Hopefully when ‘13’ is released in April it will chart higher than the first which sat just outside the top 100 worldwide album charts for three weeks. This was a great achievement considering it was done on an absolute zero marketing and PR budget and wasn’t toured before the release date.
“I’d like to thank everyone who has made it possible, my management EVnLI Ltd, Neil and Brian Kellow at my label and above all my band, the lads are my best friends, I couldn’t do any of this without Graham Scott, Chris Miggells, Dan Bird and Gareth Duffin,”
