THE BUSINESS of selling and letting houses has changed dramatically over the years but one name that has stood the test of time is David Blount.

With offices based in Mansfield, Sutton and Kirkby, leading independent estate agents David Blount is an established business now entering its 20th year.

Speaking about this significant milestone, David looks back over his years in the industry: “I started in estate agency straight from school in 1974 and qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1981 whilst working in Alfreton for Warwicks. When General Accident acquired the business in 1988 I became their area sales manager running the Notts and Derbys Estate Agency branches.”

“I set up on my own in 1992 opening my first office on the Market Place in Sutton. The second office in Kirkby followed in 1995 and the third in Mansfield also in 1995 when the opportunity arose to acquire the estate agency business of Marchants on Albert Street. That year I invited Neil Temple into partnership and we now operate the business as a Limited Company. We moved location in Sutton to our present offices at 37 Forest Street in 2002.”

David puts his company’s continuing success down to experience, offering the very best and broad range of services to clients.

“Our clients appreciate the honesty of the advice, the thoroughness of our processes and the experience gained over my 38 years in the business and that of many of my partners and colleagues who are also long time served.”

“I have always prided the business on the added value I can offer to every sale or letting in terms of the survey, structural and legal requirements. We also benefit from repeat business from satisfied customers. It is also the amount of attention to detail, particularly in researching comparable evidence, that sets us apart from the rest.”

These are challenging times for many businesses, including the housing market, which is suffering from a lack of affordable mortgage finance. This deficiency affects the number of first time buyers who hold the key to unlock the flow of sales. It is also prompting a significant increase in the lettings market forcing people to rent rather than buy.

David explains: “We not only have more tenants but more available property to rent and the lettings market is booming. We have doubled the size of our residential lettings department since 2007 and offer one of the most comprehensive fully managed lettings services in the area where our philosophy is to find the best tenants we can rather than just the first one. Our landlords regularly tell us that it is this attention to the selection of tenants that makes us stand out from the competition.”

There have been many changes over the years within the industry but David Blount has remained competitive in the market place by keeping up-to-date.

“The growth of the internet as a tool to sell houses has been the main change and today estate agencies no longer need prominent and expensive high street premises to be successful,” explained David. “Our business in 2012 is all about consolidation rather than growth. Our aim is to continue to improve our services and satisfy our clients’ requirements. We have recently installed a brand new bespoke computerised package for our lettings department and launched a brand new website at www.davidblount.co.uk .”
