BOLSOVER district’s first ever brass summer school certainly hit the high notes with 35 budding musicians attending.

Participants were led by the internationally-renowned Ian Porthouse and had a varied week of activities following tutorials, learning new skills and techniques and taking part in full rehearsals.

They also had a chance to perform at some of the area’s main tourist attractions like Hardwick Hall and Creswell Crags.

The school was held at Heritage High, Clowne, and was led by experienced tutors Mark Wilkinson, David Hirst, Helen Williams, Glyn Williams, John Barber, Gavin Saynor and Mark Landon.

Pupils also attended an invocation concert by the Sinfonia Viva Orchestra and performed alongside Tredegar Town Band during the end of course finale concert at South Normanton.

Next year’s summer school will take place on the 20th-26th July. Bookings made by 26th October will be offered an early bird incentive discount of £30 and a deposit of £100 is needed to secure a place.
