IF the ladies of Ashfield need an excuse to treat themselves to a new outfit, a charity ‘swishing’ event will provide the perfect opportunity.

The clothes swapping party is being held at the Holiday Inn in Annesley on Friday as part of wider fundraising activities for Guide Dogs Week.

The idea of swishing is that people bring unloved items of clothing, shoes and accessories to the event which other people can claim them for their own, while you get the chance to pick up a new outfit from the selection of other unwanted clothes.

Participants swap a maximum of five items for tokens and then ‘buy’ their new clothes with the tokens.

The ladies-only swishing party starts at 5.30pm and there is a £5 entrance fee, with all money going to Guide Dogs.

There will be the chance to have a glass of wine and browse stalls set up by local shops.

To be involved with this event or support Guide Dogs through volunteering or fundraising, contact the local Guide Dog team on 0845 372 7424 or e-mail vicky.coleman@guidedogs.org.uk.

Guide Dogs week runs until Sunday. It is being held to raise awareness of the obstacles blind and partially-sighted people face every day.

Every hour, another person in the UK goes blind and needs help to keep their freedom. Just £5 a day keeps a Guide Dog partnership on the road.
