THROUGH Chads may I thank everyone once again for their continued support for our endeavours.
Monday 7th April's departure to Albania marked 15 years of operation by the Nottinghamshire Police Aid Convoys. Last year we sent or delivered 10 huge lorry loads of aid to Albania, Bulgaria, Russia and Zambia - a feat we expect to repeat or even exc
eed this year.
The law decrees that we must now become a registered charity but we have directed that there will never be any paid staff; everyone will remain a volunteer and everything we use and take will be donated.
Small seems to be beautiful and we want it to stay this way! We succeed with the support of hundreds of people across the region who help in so many different ways and we expect this will continue.
Albania is easily the poorest country in Europe and hopes to join the EU in 2014. Joining the EU is dependant on being a subscribing member of NATO for four years, and that invitation to join NATO in 2010 was issued on 2nd April 2008.
On 17th March a huge explosion occurred at an old munitions site at Gerdec, near Tirana, Albania. All the hospital resources including basic items like soap were exhausted, and they were eagerly anticipating our arrival. We intend to return as soon as funds allow to help them get over this dreadful setback.
Ten people flew out fore their first time to assist with distribution and they have returned with inspirational stories and pictures, so are eager to undertake talks to tell groups of their experiences.
Zambia needs educational and teaching training materials.
The Dress for Cinderella project in Russia continues to flourish.
