Police aren't fit for purpose

ONE reacts with a healthy cynicism, brought on by painful experience on reading Nick Brimacombe's article that crime in Mansfield and Ashfield is diminishing.
In my experience, shared by many, Nottinghamshire Police are not fit for purpose. Officers are routinely untruthful, ignorant of the law and immensely arrogant.

Lie and arrogance then lead to crimes neither being logged nor investigated. In short, the figures are manipulated to con the public and put a historically underperforming force in a better light.

I have a simple solution to inculcate the individual officer that they serve the public, not the other way round.

If individual officers were made liable for their own failings, many could be as financially bankrupt as they are intellectually and morally inadequate.

Unfortunately, the tax paying public pick up the bill for their failing through increased taxes. We ultimately pay for their misdemeanors! Can readers really wish this to continue?

MR N. HARPHAM,
High Street, Stanton Hill.

A good example of effective policing was the ease by which Mr. Haslam received a slap.
Cue embarrassment all round, mass arrests...one!
Otherwise a 'Policeman's lot is not a happy one'!
