IN response to the letter (2nd July), 'What a frustrating and time consuming fiasco', I am replying to the comments made regarding the alms houses on Portland Street.
The writer says the houses were recently de-leaded, leaving slates strewn about. Also that no-one reported anything.

I must clarify that indeed there has been several attempts, some recent, to remove lead from the roofs of the properties, and in recent months we as a security firm looking after the premises have arrested 19 people on the site in the last 11 months, and, more recently, three people two weeks ago for being on the roofs.

It is difficult with any building to deter metal thieves, especially empty ones that have not got 24-hour security.

DAVID SCOTT,
Scott Security Group.
