IN response to the letter in the Chad (Letters 10th June) - 'Why wasn't Hoon at hero's funeral?'
I paid my respects to the family of Adrian Sheldon in a private letter.
I recognise the sacrifice made by the family and friends of Britain's service personnel having been responsible as a former Secretary of State for Defence for sending them into action

Geoff Hoon MP.

"Paid my respects .. in a private letter" ??
HOW DARE HE !
The very least that Geoff Hoon could have done was to pay Adrian's family a 'private' visit, IN PERSON.
Geoff Hoon (unfortunately) represents the people of Ashfield, and I'm sure that anyone would have required Hoon to have been at the funeral.
Maybe, Hoon was scared to face the family of those HE originally sent to war as the former Minister Of Defence !!
Then again, he probably had better things to do by joining the very long queue at the Fee's Office in the House's Of Parliament.
It was utterly disgraceful that Hoon could not get his priorities right just for once and showed the respect that Adrian so rightly deserves.
I think that this just shows exactly what Geoff Hoon MP really thinks of his constituents here in Ashfield.
R.I.P. Adrain Sheldon.
