MUSICAL theatre-goers can get into the summer mood by soaking up the Caribbean rhythms at Nottingham Playhouse this week.
The award-winning Once on this Island features Holby City actress and singer Sharon Clarke, who leads a cast of West End performers in this magical and uplifting fairy tale of love against the odds, which is loosely based on Hans Christian Anderson's The Little Mermaid.

Susie McKenna returns to the playhouse to direct the show which, is co-produced with Birmingham Repertory Theatre Company and the Hackney Empire.

The warm-hearted musical tells the tale of Ti Moune, a beautiful peasant girl who saves the life of a handsome and wealthy Creole planter and becomes utterly devoted to him.

But their love is tested by the island's mythical gods, who want to see if she is willing to give everything — even her life — for the purest form of love.
