TV pop star Andy Abraham has told fans to get ready for an energetic, fun packed show after he was unveiled as the headline act at this year's Mansfield Party in the Park.
The 'singing binman' won the country's hearts three years ago when he was runner-up in ITV's hit X Factor show.

Success in that talent show catapulted him to national stardom and enabled him to 'give up the day job'.

Now Mansfield people will get the chance to listen to the popular singer for themselves when he comes to the town on Saturday 2nd August for the sixth Party in the Park.

Said Andy: "I'm really looking forward to it. It's always great to do the outdoor shows –– let's just hope the weather holds up!

"People can expect to see Andy Abraham doing his thing –– it's going to be a fun, energetic show with a mix of music from the sort of thing you heard me singing on the X Factor to the more recent up-tempo stuff. I think pop music is a bit too predictable these days, but I've definitely got a few surprises for people in my set."

Andy's first album, 'The Impossible Dream', sold 176,689 copies in its first week, making it the biggest selling No. 2 album in chart history.

And the vocalist grabbed the nation's attention for a second time last month when he represented the UK at the annual Eurovision Song Contest.

He also released a new album at the start of June and says the response to 'Even If' has been 'fantastic'.

"The voting didn't go the way we wanted it to at Eurovision, which was disappointing, although we never expected to win it. The new album is all original material and a chance for me to show that I'm more than just a covers singer."

Andy will complete a great day's entertainment, taking to the stage at Titchfield Park in the evening at the end of the popular event.

Earlier in the day local singers and bands will be entertaining the crowds, which last year topped 4,000. Children's fairground rides, inflatables, circus workshops and donkey rides will complete the line-up.

And girl band Stonefoxx, currently supporting Shane Ward on his nationwide tour, will also be appearing.

Last year the family fun day was headlined by Alexander O'Neil and another X Factor star, Steve Brooksetin, was top of the bill in 2006.

And this year's Party in the Park — part of the town's nine-week long Summer in the Streets extravaganza — promises to be another winner.

The free entertainment, put together by Mansfield District Council and the Mansfield Town Centre Partnership, runs through from 12noon until late in the evening.
