MANSFIELD went dance crazy on Tuesday as the town centre joined in the fun of International Dance Day. From 10am to 2pm, various free workshops were arranged by Mansfield District Council, in conjunction with Mansfield Town Centre Partnership, for visitors and shoppers to enjoy.
And there was something for everyone, from an introduction to ballet to the more exotic Arabic Dance Moves and Turkish Circle Dance.
Some of the classes were led by Jane Selby from the Stardust Company and there were also be displays by pupils from her Meden Vale Dance Club.
Other workshops were taken by Cara Amirah, offering an Arabian experience.
And all of the events were open for anyone to join in at the Performance Area at Mansfield Market Place.
The free fun started with a workshop from 10-10.30am focussing on basic modern dance for those aged eight and above — and participants will be given a detailed handout should they wish to study the subject further.
There were also handouts for the other classes run by Jane Selby.
From 11.10am-12.10pm there was the chance to have a go at the more exotic as Cara Amirah leads workshops in Egyptian Line Dancing, Turkish Circle Dance, Egyptian Party Dance and Arabic Dance Moves. For more information on these classes, go to the website
www.arabian-experience.co.ukThere was a ballet class for all ages from 12.10-12.40pm, followed by Choreography for Children (aged 5-12) where youngsters will create short sequences of dance for themselves.
At 1.10pm a lively workshop on Musicals was for all ages, followed by the last workshop, Street Dance from 1.40-2pm. This will look at isolated movement, body poppin' and include a short taught sequence and some basic break dance movements.
The dance event was part of a series of attractions in the town centre this summer organised by Mansfield District Council and Mansfield Town centre Partnership.
