The summer special is traditionally one of the highlights of the area's events calendar and attracted a record 75,000 visitors in 2007.

And with a host of top acts and old favourites pencilled in to perform at the Edwinstowe festival, that number looks set to be beaten this year.

Says Nic Broomhead, head of Nottinghamshire County Council's country parks and conservation service: "The extensive cast list ensures that, whatever days they decide to come, there's lots for them to enjoy."

For it is packed with a variety of attractions and entertainment, including jugglers and jesters as well as street theatre performers, archers and experts in medieval combat.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy the reappearance of many favourites, like Alan a'Dale and Festa, Legends, What a Palaver, Zebediah the Ratcatcher and Grunal the Moneyer.

And organisers have also announced the welcome return of medieval longbowman, William of Sherwood, madcap jester, Peterkin the Fool, tale tellers Past Imagined and the Medieval Maniax.

But there are new faces lined up to appear, including jesting duo Brum and Dudley, playful buffoon Simple Tom, double act Foolscap Productions and the Oakwood Outlaws.

The seven-day extravaganza –– which runs from 28th July-3rd August –– also features fun events such as archery where budding Robin Hoods and Maid Marians can test their prowess with the longbow.

In addition, costumed characters will also demonstrate traditional skills at the Medieval Market and there will be ever popular jousting tournaments.

Admission is free, with a small charge for some of the events, and parking costs £3 per vehicle, but is free for coaches and minibuses with more than 12 seats as well as disabled badge holders.
