REALITY TV star Chico will undoubtedly add the X Factor to Mansfield's annual festive party and grand switch-on of its Christmas lights on Thursday 13th November.
But who else can the public expect to see at the winter wonderland evening in Mansfield Market Place?

  • It's Chico time for Christmas Lights switch-on

As well as Chico, Paralympic gold medal star Sam Hynd, children's favourite Peppa Pig, Santa Claus himself, panto stars from the Palace Theatre's Sleeping Beauty, appearances by Stags players and live entertainment, including a spectacular firework finale, will all be part of the Christmas entertainment.

And look out for Santa Claus making a grand entrance into the Market Place on a vintage fire engine.

The fun will be centred around the Performance Area in Market Place — and there will be a big screen alongside the stage so that the crowds don't miss any of the entertainment.

The event is organised and supported by Mansfield District Council, Mansfield Town Centre Partnership, Four Seasons Shopping Centre, Mansfield 103.2, Chad and Mansfield Christmas Lights Committee — with help and support from Experience Nottinghamshire.

It all starts at 5.30pm, with Mansfield 103.2 and the Chad Roadshow giving away prizes and providing music and entertainment right through to the grand switch-on of the lights at 6.45pm.

And if the weather is unseasonably warm don't worry, as a snow machine is sure to create a winter wonderland with a beautiful falling snow effect.

So make sure you get down to Mansfield Market Place on Thursday 13th November at 5.30pm for a glittering spectacle.

And to round off the fun after the 5.45pm switch-on, look to the skies for a fantastic fireworks finale.

Then, don't rush home, as the switch-on event also marks the start of late-night shopping in Mansfield. Shops will be open in the Four Seasons and elsewhere until 8.30pm, so hang around and get some Christmas bargains.

Stores will open late every Thursday from the switch-on up to Christmas, when there will also be entertainment for festive shoppers — from traditional carol singers to street and children's entertainers – outside the main library on West Gate, courtesy of Mansfield District Council.

Lisa Vincent, town centre events and promotions co-ordinator, said: "I am sure this year's Christmas lights switch-on will be bigger and better than ever.

"There really is something for everyone - I'm sure old and young alike will enjoy the event.

"I would urge residents and visitors alike to come along to the Market Place, join in the fun and partake in some late-night Christmas shopping along the way."

What? If this chav-pandering excercise gets any earlier in the year, we'd be closer to the previous Christmas

Its a great family event for the kids and has been year after year, me and my husband attend ever year with our four children but always from afar as its too packed for us to get anywhere near as its that popular.
There is always a good feel presence on the night and its magical for the children and its free!!
what more could you ask for??

We're in the middle of financial turmoil and still wasting THOUDANDS of pounds on Christmas lights and fancy events like this. It makes me sad to think of the people sat at home, no hot meal, no heating, no TV etc, and all those who will be spending Christmas on the streets with nothing.

Maybe the best Christmas celebration is not getting some unheard of "celebrity" to turn on lights that we don't even have the money to run, but setting up a soup stall & clothing donations in the square for the homeless and less advantaged. I'm sure plenty of Mansfield folk would volunteer their time to set this up.

this is the problem with people - soooooo negative. yes there are economical problems at the minute and my husband is one of the unfortunate ones to have been made redundant. Events like this allow us to celebrate as a community. It is a FREE event for all the family and my three year old is ecstatic that peppa pig and santa is going to be there!!!
