SWING back in time and relive some great wartime hits at Worksop's North Notts Arena on Saturday 13th September.
That is the venue for the 1940s Hangar Dance evening – now in its second year – so why not dress up in wartime costumes and go along and enjoy the fun?
Al Needham and his swing band will be providing the entertainment on the night to recreate the classics from musical greats from the bygone era such as Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Tommy Dorsey and the forces’ sweetheart Vera Lynn.
Money from the show will be donated to Bassetlaw Breastcare Appeal, Trust AM and Worksop Lions, and there will be a special 1940s themed buffet for guests, offering everything from jelly to bread and dripping.
Trust AM’s Len Bratley said last year’s show proved a huge success, raising £1,200 for charity, and said he hoped to see an equally good turnout this year.
”It was a great evening and there was a fantastic atmosphere,” he said. ”I remember people going home saying they hoped we would hold another one this year.”
He added: ”We want this show to develop over the years and are looking into getting the UK Glenn Miller Band for the 2009 Hangar Dance. This is something for people of all ages to enjoy.”
The entertainment starts off at 7.30pm and lasts until midnight. Tickets are priced £15 each and can be purchased from Shireoaks Post Office, Altamar Sound and Light on Ryton Street, Party Occasions on Bridge Street and North Notts Arena.
The Guardian has teamed up with Trust AM and North Notts Arena to offer one lucky reader a pair of tickets to the dance.
