We had a good week with the selections at Nottingham last Thursday.
John Gosden's filly Expresso Star won the feature race as predicted, with Jaser back in third which I recommended to back each way at 12/1 with Boylesports.
New Approach also bolted up in the Champions Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday to prove the
Betdaq layers wrong and top a fantastic season for Jim Bolger's yard.
Racing comes from Southwell on Wednesday, with a jumps card tranferred from the flood-damaged Worcester.
There are two Class 3 races during the afternoon, a beginners chase as the first contest at 2.20pm followed an hour later by a handicap chase.
The beginners chase boasts an interesting field of eight runners, including Jonjo O'Neills 2007 Cheltenham Festival winner Wichita Lineman.
This will be the seven year olds first appearance over fences in public and is likely to be sent off the odds on favourite.
This is a distinct drop in class for this horse, however the family (including top-class hurdler Rhinestone Cowboy) is not renowned for their chasing prowess.
I would take this opportunity to lay (bet against) Wichita Lineman on Betdaq and instead back Strong Coffee each way at 6/1 with Boylesports, after his recent success at this course.
Oliver Sherwoods charge has always looked likely to do better than his hurdles form suggested and he has proven form around this track having won here just 13 days ago.
The second Class 3 race is another chase, this time a handicap over 2 miles 4 furlongs. My first choice for this race would be Our Jasper bringing together the successful partnership of trainer Donald McCain and jockey Jason Maguire.
This eight year old gelding has won over this distance and with his trainer well capable of readying one after a break (236 days in this case), his current price of 11/2 looks generous.
Down at the bottom of the handicap, Sue Smith's Oso Magic looks a good each way bet at 12/1 with Boylesports.
Although he hasn't got his head in front since 2005, he has a feather weight of 10st 3lbs minus his conditional rider's 3lb claim and should find this a chance to continue the consistent form he ended last season on.
The 'race that stops a nation' - the Melbourne Cup - takes place on Tuesday 4th November and Europe look to have a fantastic chance of taking it off the Aussies.
Septimus and Mad Rush are vying for favouritism, but I think Godolphin's All The Good has a tremendous chance.
He bolted up at Newbury in August and then took the Caulfield Cup at 40/1 last Saturday.
This former Gerard Butler-trained five-year-old hasn't stopped improving all season and is now as short as 8/1 with Boylesports for the big one.
You can back him at 12/1 on Betdaq though, so get on!
