Racing takes place at Nottingham on Friday with a six race card, starting at 2pm.
The most interesting race is the 3.45pm – a class 4 3yo fillies handicap with seven declared runners.
The clear favourite is Amicable Terms from the Rae Guest sta
ble, however, I think the one to beat may be the William Haggas trained Snowdrop Princess.
This hat-trick chasing filly is racing off a light weight, with assistance from Kirsty Milczarek, who is brimming with confidence having just ridden out her claim, but who is for the purposes of this race still taking an additional 3lbs off the fillies back.
Snowdrop Princess has not run on ground as soft as it will be on Friday, but assuming she handles it well, she's the bet.
Southwell is staging their premier meeting of the year on Sunday with The Newark Advertiser Ladies Day – a six race NH card.
There's an interesting contest in the 2.50pm, a 2m1f beginners chase. I think one to keep an eye out for is Hypnotic Vibes from the Evan Williams yard.
Williams does well with his raiders at Southwell and although this Daylami four-year-old has not jumped a fence in public, he is sure to have been well schooled and should be fit on his return from a 159-day absence.
He carries a light weight and can act on good to soft ground, which I imagine is how the ground will ride on Sunday.
Another interesting horse at Southwell is Redemption, trained by G J Smith and entered in the 3.50pm.
This 13-year-old was formerly trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies and has only recently changed hands.
He has run in some brilliant races over the years and now dropped back into claiming company he should continue to get his nose in front.
For those of you who follow local trainers, Alan McCabe and Derek Shaw both have runners at Nottingham, while Richard Guest and S Bowring have horses entered for Southwell's meeting on Sunday.
Anyone who witnessed Rainbow View's demolition of a decent field at Newmarket last Saturday knows that every now and again a special two year-old comes along.
This John Gosden trained filly looks right out of the top drawer and as she has already proved in two unbeaten runs that she goes on any ground, looks worth a bet at around 9/1 with Boylesports for next year's 1000 Guineas.
Duke of Marmalade is the one to beat in next Tuesday's Juddmonte International Stakes from York, but at 4/7, I'm a layer on Betdaq rather than a backer with Derby winner New Approach likely to also be in the line-up.
