Followers of this column will not have had such a successful time with the Nottingham meeting last week, although I hope you followed my advice to lay (bet against) Dome Rocket on Betdaq.
Racing returns to Nottingham once again on Wednesday for the final time this season with a six race card, the highlight of which is the Class 2 conditions stakes at 3.40pm.

This feature race has only attracted a field of six runners to run over t
he mile trip, and the heavy ground will ensure that this will be a real test of stamina.

I think the horse to beat in this race will be Paul Cole's General Eliott who is being dropped in class after a good run in a Listed race at Newmarket on Saturday.

He may have had a hard race on that occassion, however I am sure his trainer would not run him if he was feeling any ill effects so I would expect him to pass the post in front of the rest of the field. He is currently trading at 9/4 with Boylesports.

A horse I have liked all year is Little White Lie from the John Jenkins stable.

He has had a very consitent season, having notched up a fantastic success at Epsom, and then following up in the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket a month later.

He has proved he can handle testing conditions, has plenty of stamina and his fourth place in the Cambridgeshire at Newmarket last months suggests he is still in great fettle.

I would expect him to run another solid race and to be the one to beat if General Eliott has not fully recovered from his exertions over the weekend, however I feel at 15/8 he is currently too short a price to recommend.

The flat season is now at it's end and the jumps stars are coming out in force. Champion NH trainer Paul Nicholls had a fantastic day at Down Royal on Saturday, with the top-class Kauto Star winning in a canter, and the promising Noland obliging shortly afterwards.

This is a sure sign that his yard is gearing up to another amazing season, although with the likes of Jonjo O'Neill's Witchita Lineman and Nicky Henderson's Afsoun both having made winning appearances in their chasing debuts, the jumps season as a whole is looking likely to be a punters delight.
