ON Friday, glowing tributes were paid to Ashfield's 'best.'
These were the men, women and youngsters nominated by members of the public as being worthy of special recognition.

Organised once again by Ashfield District Council, it was an opportunity to show well-deserved civic appreciation of people - young and not so young - who have made an outstanding contribution in the community over the past 12 months.

Without exception, the stories behind their success were heart-warming; many were moving, even inspiring.

But it should not be thought for a moment that they are the only ones to be making a difference.

Across Ashfield there are countless people, in so many walks of life, who are showing by their example just what can be achieved through a combination of hard work, dedication, generosity and a willingness to put the interests of others before their own.

It's what makes Ashfield and its people special.
Long may this continue to be so.
