THIS week has seen more tragedy on our roads, with lives destroyed in a matter of minutes.
Three people were injured in an horrific crash on the A38 in Sutton on Friday afternoon, and a woman died on the M1 between junction 29 and 30 on Monday when her Ford Ka left the road.

In the car were two children aged just 12 and two years old.

Such incidents not only affect those directly involved in these events, but all the motorists who witness the accidents.

It is just weeks since six lives were lost on the A614, and just a month since Ben Drabarek from Kirkby was killed on the A38.

The scars are not only physical, but mental, too, and can stay with family, friends and witnesses for many years into the future.

We must also remember the emergency services who deal with the consequences and work tirelessly to save the injured.

Whatever the reasons for such accidents, we would all do well to take extra care when we're out and about on our daily business.

It's all too easy to be cocooned in our vehicles and think we're invincible — we are not.
