BENEATH the railway arches in Mansfield town centre is Casey's cafe – which until recently I did not even know existed.
But the cosy cafe, on White Hart Street, seems to have already been discovered by plenty of shoppers who were enjoying the relaxed atmosphere and good selection of drinks, cakes and light meals on Friday.

Although there is not much space in the cafe, there seemed to be plenty of seating and after sitting down a member of staff arrived promptly to take our order.

There were a good selection of dishes on the menu and specials' board and I felt spoilt for choice, but in the end decided to go for the smoked haddock pasta bake with garlic bread and a side salad (priced at £5.65), while my dining companion opted for a lime and chilli chicken baguette, which came with a generous portion of salad, coleslaw and crisps (priced at £5.25).

We did not have to wait long for our food and it was well presented when it arrived.

I enjoyed my meal and the smoked haddock gave it a lovely, warm flavour, the salad was fresh and the garlic bread was well-toasted.

However, I did find the whole meal a bit too much as the sauce was very rich and creamy and garlic bread, along with the pasta, was probably a little too much carbohydrate.

Meanwhile, my companion thoroughly enjoyed her baguette, which she said was warm with a delicious and generous filling.

There were some delicious-looking desserts on offer, including apple pie and chocolate cake, but we decided to save them for a day when we would come in for tea and cakes as we were already full.

The bill, for two people, came to £13.10 including drinks, which seemed reasonable given the generous portions and the friendly attitude of the staff means we will definitely pay another visit.
