The Fox and Hounds - one of the best pubs I have been to in a long time

ONE of the joys of eating out is discovering a pub in the countryside which serves traditional food and a good selection of real beers.
The Fox and Hounds in Blidworth Bottoms is one of those pubs and a joy if you fancy a home cooked meal away from the hustle and bustle of town.
It is an old farm house which was built in the early 19th Century and is apparently home to a friendly ghost, but is now one of the best comfortable and welcoming pubs I have been to in a long time.
The pub is quite small, but extremely cosy and popular, if the evening I went on is a good representation, as plenty of people were there for their main meal of the day.
Its bar has a nice selection of beers and I was pleased to find one of my favourites Olde Trip, as well as various wines and soft drinks.
After a warm welcome from all the staff we took our seats and had a scan of the menu, which revealed various traditional dinners, alongside more adventurous meals, desserts and light snacks.
Surrounded by the countryside, my appetite called for a hot meal and at £6.95 the Giant Yorkshire Pudding seemed the perfect treat –– while my date went for the Gourmet Fish Cakes at £8.95.
Both arrived and our eyes lit up, the fishcakes came with a generous side salad and potatoes and the fish was cooked perfectly.
However, it was the Yorkshire pudding which really amazed us, the portion was huge –– an enormous pudding filled with veg and two great big sausages with herbs.
At the end of the meal we were left stuffed and really felt we had got our money's worth in the size and quality of the food.
The atmosphere in the pub was also great with an array of different characters all enjoying a meal or drink and there was a friendly feeling in the air.
All in all, The Fox and Hounds is a great place to eat and for those whose ideal meal out is a traditional one then this is definitely a place to try out if you have not been lucky enough to go already.
