SITUATED in the idyllic surroundings of Thoresby Hall near Edwinstowe, the Bay Tree Restaurant is an extremely enjoyable way to spend a lunch hour.
When we arrived on Wednesday lunchtime at 12.15pm, the restaurant was already full of friends enjoying lunch, a glass of wine or a cake which I took to be a good sign.

There was plenty to choose from on the menu and specials board, including pasta dishes and fish cakes, as well as standard snacks such as sandwiches and jacket potatoes.

We were greeted by our waitress fairly soon after arriving and I decided to go for the tomato and basil soup to start with, followed by the jacket potato with tuna while my dining companion opted for the roast mushroom quiche from the specials board.

Again, service was prompt and soon we were tucking into our lunch.
The tomato and basil soup was thick and rich and this was complemented well by the delicate flavour of the basil.

My main course was also very enjoyable and the attention to detail –– including different pots of salad and pasta –– was good, although I thought the price of £5.95 was a little steep.

My colleague liked her quiche and was also impressed by the attractive presentation and attention to detail.

Overall, what makes the Bay Tree stand out for me is the pleasant atmosphere and choice of good quality dishes.
