ANYONE looking to escape from the hustle and bustle of town can find a pleasant retreat at Lucy's cafe, just off Mansfield Market Place.
The interior is light and relaxed and on Thursday lunch-time it seemed a popular choice for people to catch up with friends or read the newspapers on one of the sofas by the window.
The menu included sandwiches, jacket potatoes, salads and burgers
, as well as a specials board and all the food was reasonably priced.
I opted for soup of the day, leek and water cress, and the Greek salad, while my dining companion chose lemon chicken with black pepper in a pitta pocket and salad from the specials board.
My expectations were quite high and although the salad and lemon chicken arrived fairly quickly, the soup and cutlery did not arrive until I reminded the waitress.
I enjoyed the soup, which was thick and flavoursome, and my dining companion assured me that her meal, which came with an impressive salad, was very good indeed.
The Greek salad, on the other hand, was a little disappointing and again I had to inform the waitress that my bread had not arrived.
While the ingredients were fresh, it contained several items – carrots, coleslaw, parsley, spring onions and celery – that would not usually appear in a Greek salad, and there were not enough tomatoes.
I think Lucy's has the potential to be a great café, but what let it down on my visit was the service.
Although the staff were extremely pleasant and apologetic, we were left waiting far too long.
