FOR many of us lunch consists of little more than a limp, pre-packed sandwich or a run-of-the-mill microwaved meal at a chain pub.
So it made a refreshing change to lunch in the chic surroundings of Cinnamon Spice on Leeming Street.
The interior is ultra modern and what strikes you first about the restaurant is the attention to detail, which stretches from the well-stocked, almost space-age looking bar to the funky crockery and cutlery.
At just £5.99 their lunch time special offer is not going to break the bank, offers enough choice to satisfy most tastes and is more than enough to keep you going until dinner.
The deal is great value for money and as well as a choice of starters and mains, you can order a vegetable dish, have a choice of rice or naan bread and can choose between coffee or a sweet.
I opted for meat samosa, chicken tikka mossala and aloo sag, while my dining companions decided to sample the chicken tikka starter followed by the lamb rogan josh –– we were not disappointed.
All the dishes were mouth-wateringly well presented and from the first bite to the last, the meal was delicious.
For me the highlight of the meal was the rich, creamy mossala sauce, which was a combination of subtle flavours and was spicy enough to give the dish a bit of edge, without being over-powering.
The generous portions meant there was no room for desert, but as we relaxed with our coffee we took the opportunity to flick through the menu.
Surprisingly, many of the dishes I expected to see –– such as curry, madras and vindaloo –– were absent, but as the menu explains all of these dishes can be requested.
Instead, the pages of the menu were filled with exotic, delicious sounding dishes I had never heard of before and I will certainly be paying Cinnamon Spice another visit in the near future to sample some more of the chef's excellent cooking.
Cinnamon Spice provides a great lunchtime eating experience with delicious food and friendly staff in a chic setting with a relaxed atmosphere.
It is great value for money and at only a few pounds more than the beer and burger style deals offered in many pubs it is highly recommended.
